After making the move from the urban sprawl of Sydney to the countryside of the Sapphire Coast in NSW, driven by a dream of living on the land and a slower-paced life. The tree change taught us many things, one of which was the realisation that there was a desire to escape the hustle and bustle of city life and enjoy the simplicity of life.
This realisation dawned on us as friends relished their visits – not for sightseeing but for the sheer pleasure of being. They’d escape their hectic lives, dive into books they’d been meaning to read all year and breathe in the fresh country air. It was this desire that sparked our vision to create a sanctuary where others could disconnect from the business of life and reconnect with every aspect of nature that we were so lucky to have right on our doorstep.
The Beginning of Currajong Retreat
With hearts full of passion but little experience in running a tourism business, we embarked on creating Currajong Retreat. Drawing from our memories of exploring South Africa’s National Parks and these enriching experiences of nature-based tourism, we envisioned a sanctuary that would allow others to reconnect with nature just as we had. The unpredictable beauty of the wilderness had always rejuvenated our souls, and we wanted to share this restorative experience with others.
The Inspiration Behind Glamping
Glamping — getting its name from glamorous camping—resonated fondly as the perfect way to merge the charm of camping with the luxury of a hotel stay. Influenced by our African safari experiences, where nights are spent under the canvas of a safari tent, listening to the distant calls of the wild, we knew we wanted to replicate that enchanting connection with nature.
Unlike traditional camping, which can deter those averse to discomfort, glamping ensures a blend of comfort and nature. You can enjoy an intimacy with nature from the canvas walls without the hassle of setting up a tent in the rain or washing dishes outdoors. It’s about enjoying the essence of camping with the added benefits of modern luxury.

What We Created
Today, Currajong Retreat features three luxury safari tents perched on a cliff overlooking the Towamba River. All feature luxurious amenities like private outdoor bathtubs, ensuite bathrooms, and cozy indoor fireplaces—each detail is meticulously planned to enhance the guest experience, allowing you to disconnect from digital noise and reconnect with each other and the environment.
